MELISSA AMBROSINI IS THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF MASTERING YOUR MEAN GIRL AND OPEN WIDE, HOST OF THE NUMBER ONE PODCAST THE MELISSA AMBROSINI SHOW, A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER, AND A SELF-LOVE TEACHER. HERE SHE CHATS THROUGH HER SUPER-HEALTHY DAILY DIET WITH DR SIMONE LAUBSCHER PHD.
Before Breakfast: Upon rising I have a big class of room temperature, clean, filtered water with a pinch of salt to add in some minerals and kick start my digestion.
Dr Laubscher PhD (DL): Pink Himalayan or Persian blue I presume :)
After that I always move my body, either walking, yoga or F45, followed by a 20 minute meditation.
DL: Beautiful! So great to start the day by moving your body and then sitting for 20 minutes in a mindful way! That is a real pearl of wisdom I took from my business partner Elle Macpherson - to always move your body everyday, and it has changed my life.
Breakfast: Breakfast (like all my meals) is always changing as I eat with the seasons, so at the moment I am enjoying a green smoothie. The recipe for that can be found in my ebook, The Glow Kitchen.
DL: Sounds amazing and I'm sure two teaspoons of THE SUPER ELIXIR bioavailable supergreens would give you that extra kick!
Mid-morning snack: I don’t snack in the morning as I am not hungry and full from the healthy fats I put in my smoothie. But this is a time I will get in loads of clean filtered water as water is best had away from food.
DL: Usually if your breakfast is balanced with the right level of protein and essential fatty acids you shouldn't really need a mid-morning snack (it’s a short time between breakfast and lunch). Water and herbal and green teas usually do the trick.

Lunch: Lunch is usually a massive plate of veggies with some protein and good quality healthy fats like olive oil or avocado. I also have a spoonful of fermented veggies to help feed the good gut bacteria.
DL: Love the large plate of veggies, and I'm sure you take care to source wild and or organic protein sources to avoid nasty hormones, pesticides and antibiotics. Fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut is great to boost probiotics, as is cloudy apple cider vinegar with the 'mother' still in it (which looks kind of like spider webs). Fab for digestion and absorption too.
Afternoon snack: For afternoon tea I might have a cup of bone broth, a green juice, a matcha latte or a little treat ;) Whatever my body feels like and sometimes that’s nothing. I always tune into my body and make sure I actually want something and I am not just eating out of habit, boredom or to fill an emotional void.
DL: Being mindful in the afternoons, especially between 3.00pm -5.00pm is very wise as this is the time of the day you can in fact eat for all the wrong reasons. All of your snacks sound great, and a good trick if you do have cravings, is to have a cup of herbal or green tea or 500ml water and then see if you are indeed hungry. As you know, often dehydration can get confused with hunger, so its always great to pause and hydrate first before you snack.

Dinner: We aim to eat dinner at 5:30pm so as to leave as much time (ideally 3 hours) from when we stop eating to when we go to bed at 8:30pm. Dinner is very similar to lunch, loads of veggies, salad, protein and fermented vegetables. My favourite dinner is organic slow cooked lamb (the recipe is in my ebook The Glow Kitchen). Yum!
DL: I agree and tell my patients a minimum 2 or 3 hours is optimum to leave between eating and sleeping to support digestion. I don't tolerate animals with four legs or more very well, but we are all different so if you feel good on organic lamb, then of course enjoy it. I also agree you need to be still and listen to your body. The body is a wonderful communicator if we choose to listen. By the time we get a health crisis, this is a shout and no longer a whisper, so we really need to get out of our heads and more and into our bodies, so we can track if our body feels well or not on certain foods. We are on the same page, your day on a plate is not only nourishing but mindful too, stay blessed!
