4 LIVER-LOVING THINGS TO DO THE MORNING AFTER THE NIGHT BEFORE

Read this (even if the room is still spinning) to shift that headache and help your body bounce right back.

A good night out is fun, but can leave our bodies feeling wrecked and less than vibrant. Headaches and nausea can be accompanied by symptoms like bloating and indigestion as your gut tries to deal with excess sugar, preservatives, toxins, and last night’s glut of empty calories.

Here are 4 things to do the next morning to get your body back on track.

HYDRATE

Alcohol can severely dehydrate the body, leaving you feeling nauseous, drained and like there’s a jackhammer inside your head. Alcohol is also a diuretic, so whatever attempts you made at pacing your drinks with water in-between, have likely already exited your body.

On waking, down as much coconut or filtered water as you can (at least 2-3 litres). Chase it with a hot lemon water to gently wake your liver up and boost metabolic function.

TAKE A TONIC

The SUPER ELIXIR and WelleCo Detoxifying Liver Tonic Super Booster are WelleCo staffers go-tos after a big night out.

Because the SUPER ELIXIR contains Milk Thistle and Dandelion extract, it is useful for helping support healthy liver function. Simply add 2 teaspoons of SUPER ELIXIR Greens to ice-cold water, shake, and drink.

WelleCo Detoxifying Liver Tonic Super Booster is formulated with medicinal herbs and adaptogens like Milk Thistle, Dandelion, Schisandra and Curcumin that help support the natural cleansing and detoxifying processes of the liver and helps reduce free radicals formed in the body. Simply add 1 vial to ice cold water, stir to dissolve and drink.

Or try this delicious detox cocktail that combines both.

  • Fresh ginger
  • Ice

Blitz in a Nutribullet, sip and chill….

UP YOUR PROTEIN INTAKE

Hangovers are partly caused by a massive sugar crash. Alcohol and mixers are high in sugar so when you take them away, your blood sugar can drop dramatically. Counteract this effect by loading up on some clean protein. Eggs contain cysteine, an amino acid that helps to replenish levels of glutathione in the body and reduce oxidative stress by combatting free radicals.

Can’t face food? Try a NOURISHING PLANT PROTEIN smoothie. It is formulated with Leucine that helps regulate blood-sugar levels, Dandelion that helps cleanse and maintain liver function and synbiotics, and a blend of Pre and Probiotics that support digestion and a healthy gut pH balance.

Try adding 1 scoop to ice-cold water, half a frozen banana or some avocado, a teaspoon of almond butter, and blitz to combine.

WALK IT OFF

Venture outside for some fresh air. Studies show that oxygen can help increase the rate that alcohol toxins are broken down. A slow stroll that helps move oxygen through your body and assists your liver with filtering the toxins of alcohol from your blood. If you feel up to something a little more vigorous than a walk, go for it. The release of endorphins will help you feel better, faster.
